PCS अधिकारी राजस्व प्रशासन के संचालन और कानून व्यवस्था बनाए रखने से लेकर अनुमंडल, जिला, संभाग और राज्य स्तर पर विभिन्न पदों पर कार्य करते हैं। उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार का नियुक्ति एवं कार्मिक विभाग सेवा का संवर्ग नियंत्रण प्राधिकारी है। प्रांतीय पुलिस सेवा (PPS) और प्रांतीय वन सेवा (PFS) के साथ, PCS अपने संबंधित तीन फीडर सेवाओं में से एक है।
PCS की जिम्मेदारियां क्या- क्या है :
भूमि राजस्व एकत्र करना और राजस्व और अपराध के मामलों में अदालतों के रूप में कार्य करना (राजस्व अदालतें और कार्यकारी मजिस्ट्रेट की आपराधिक अदालतें), कानून और व्यवस्था बनाए रखना, केंद्र और राज्य सरकार की नीतियों को जमीनी स्तर पर लागू करना जब उन्हें फील्ड पदों पर तैनात किया जाता है। उप-मंडल मजिस्ट्रेट, अतिरिक्त सिटी मजिस्ट्रेट, सिटी मजिस्ट्रेट, अतिरिक्त जिला मजिस्ट्रेट और अतिरिक्त मंडल आयुक्त के रूप में। और मैदान पर सरकार के एजेंट के रूप में कार्य करना, अर्थात जनता और सरकार के बीच मध्यस्थ के रूप में कार्य करना।
प्रभारी मंत्री, अतिरिक्त मुख्य सचिव/प्रधान सचिव और संबंधित विभाग के सचिव के परामर्श से नीति निर्माण और कार्यान्वयन सहित सरकार के प्रशासन और दैनिक कार्यवाही को संभालने के लिए इनकी प्रमुख जिम्मेदारियां हैं।
